Pat Robertson leg press and Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell

Filed under: The Show — Justin @ 1:11 pm

Pat Robertson leg press
Pat Robertson, the 76 year old host of the christian show “The 700 club”, claims to have leg pressed 2,000 pounds.  The feat was said to have been accomplished three years ago when he was 73 years of age.  The claim has brought some huge criticism and with good reason.  I am pretty heavily involved in bodybuilding.  I’m a huge fan of Ronnie Coleman (eight time Mr. Olympia), who has made several training videos of his preparation for various contests.  Some of the feats include squatting 800 pounds and also deadlifting 800 pounds, as well as a 2,200+ pound leg press.  I know Ronnie could have done more than this but he is a 300+ pound professional bodybuilder, they had already used every 100 and 45 pound plate in the gym, and those sleds (leg press machines) aren’t really designed to hold that much weight.

There was a long discussion this morning about homosexuals in the military. Two gay men went to their local national guard recruiters office to protest the military’s “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy. Rover said he thought the national guard should have sent them over to Iraq. Instead they gave them a podium and let the media have a field day.

There were several callers with differing opinions. One being a gay soldier who has been serving our country for about 15 years. I have a very deep respect for anyone putting their life on the line for our country but at the same time can definitely see why the policy is in place. It is for the safety of both the gay person and everyone else, it is not a discriminatory policy.

Anderson Cooper is also going to be on the show today. Rover bet Dieter $20 he won’t ask him about his sexual preference. That should make for an interesting interview.

Gracie - Hughes fight, Pay-per-view and Climbing Mt. Everest

Filed under: The Show — Justin @ 12:48 pm

UFC 60 (yes 60) was held over the weekend.  The main event was Matt Hughes vs. Royce
Gracie.  The fight was heavily promoted and much anticipated.  Rover and Dieter did not order the fight but Dieter had read about it.  Hughes ended up defeating Gracie 4:39 into
the first round.  The fight was stopped by referee John McCarthy.  Apparently, Gracie, a Brazialian jiu-jitsu black belt was unable to keep Hughes, a collegiate wrestling champion, at bay.  Hughes landed 17 consecutive punches to Gracie’s head before the fight was stopped.

Rover, who is a huge boxing fan, got on a rant about how expensive pay-per-view events have become.  He said many of the boxing matches he would like to order cost $54.95.  I just looked up the Gracie-Hughes fight and it is $39.95 just for the replay!  Pay-per-view has come to the point where you have to get a group of 5-10 guys together just to make is somewhat affordable.

Climber with no legs
Following up on a story covered last week about the climber with no legs passing by another stranded climber, there was a story of a climber being rescued after falling into a chasm.  Rover and Dieter went on to debate whether or not you would rescue someone if you were that close to the summit.  Rover researched the trip and said it would cost $50,000 to $75,000 to climb Everest, plus all the time you put into training and preparation.  Rover said he would still stop and rescue someone, although it would probably eliminate your chance of making it to the summit.  Dieter said he would pass them by to achieve the goal of reaching the summit.  Here is a picture of the climber with no legs:

Rover then went on to say he thought he could climb Mt. Everest. Duji and Dieter made fun of him and told him to try to climb 10 flights of steps. Rover had looked into the pricing and other factors for climbing it, although it is hard to take him seriously considering his self proclaimed laziness and not having worked out since high school.

Dieter covers entire body in mineral ice

Filed under: Dare Dieter — Justin @ 3:00 pm

Dieter had previously spoken about putting icy hot on his nuts.  A listener emailed and dared him to cover his entire body in mineral ice, which is similar.  Apparently, a woman had recently died from doing so.  I can feel Dieter’s pain on this dare as myself and a friend once dared each other to put icy hot on our nuts.  We both ended up at sinks running water over the region, which after hearing all the calls, probably made it worse rather than better.

Dieter stripped down and Jenna the virgin intern began at his feet and worked her way up.  She got his bottom half covered and then Dieter covered the sensitive region himself.  He began to wail immediately after and no one knew if he could continue or not.  Dieter ended up completing the dare.  He said the armpits were the worst part and was making moaning noises for the last 20 minutes of the show.

I found the dare pretty humourous, mostly because I can feel his pain from my previous incident.  The show left with DJ Jazzy Jim trying to clean Dieter up with some dishwasher detergent.  Hopefully, it won’t ruin his 3 day weekend.

Seat belt laws, Volleyball and Lying to women

Filed under: The Show — Justin @ 2:54 pm

A caller asked whether the crew thought the seat belt and motorcycle helmet laws were a good idea.  Rover and Duji both thought that they were a good idea, while Dieter continued to contend that wearing no seatbelt and locking out your arms and legs was a better idea.  They kept on this discussion for a long time, with many callers chiming in.  Dieter said that your locked out arms can hold back 1000 pounds of pressure.  An EMT called in and said from his experience, many more people survive if they were wearing their seatbelts.

DJ Jazzy Jim told a story of a volleyball he took onto a bus popping and it scaring an old woman so bad that
she soiled herself.  So Jim and Dieter tried to pop a volleyball.  Jim make several unsuccessful attempts
which had Rover laughing hysterically.  Besides jumping on the ball, Jim tried to close it in a metal door and lighting it on fire.  He did manage to light the volleyball on fire, which caused quite a stir.

Finally, Dieter told a story about seeing a woman in the elevator of their office building yesterday.  He was with a sales woman from the station.  The woman in the elevator asked Dieter about his studio.  Dieter had met this woman in a bar shortly after moving to Chicago.  He told her he was a photographer for FHM magazine so he could sleep with her.  They ended up sleeping together but Dieter had not seen her since.

The sales woman that was accompanying Dieter informed her that he worked in radio.  When she found this out, she became infuriated, saying she was going to sue Dieter.  She caused a scene in the office building and Dieter subsequently lost the client he was going to speak with.

Internet Gambling and Addiction, The Grizzly Man and EM: Homeless Edition Results

Filed under: The Show — Justin @ 4:48 pm

The gang got on the subject of internet gambling today.  They got started on the subject by discussing all the controversy surrounding it and how they thought it was a fade that will just die off like everything else.  They all admitted to playing and at first, Rover said that Duji was doing better than either he or Dieter.  Duji then dropped a bomb, saying she has lost at least $5,000 gambling online since December.  Rover and Dieter tried to convince her that she has a problem, but she was not listening (as usual).

Grizzly ManDieter mentioned that he watched “Grizzly Man”.  It is the story of a man who goes to live in Alaska with Grizzly bears every year for something like 14 years.  Dieter had watched the movie because Dan, the producer, had said you get to see him eaten by a bear at the end.  Instead of fast-forwarding to the end, Dieter watched the whole movie. Instead of getting to see the death scene, which turned out to only be audio anyway, the movie’s director played the audio for someone else and you were only able to see their reaction to the tape.

Finally, Mike was announced as the winner of the Extreme Makeover: Homeless Edition and received a Sony Handicam for his efforts.  Here are the after pictures of James and Rock, you can see the before pictures in Tuesday’s thread.
