Schools watching students online, Logan Young III and EM: Homeless Edition

Filed under: The Show — Justin @ 2:00 pm

With the explosion of social networking sites such as Myspace and Facebook has come increasing concern from parents and educators over what students
are posting on these sites.  Rover discussed a school district in Illinois that is forcing students who are in extra-curricular activities to sign waivers that if they are caught posting inappropriate material online, they can be kicked off the team and receive disciplinary action.  Obviously with school shootings and kids bringing weapons to school, educators need
to stay on top of things.  But checking up on what students do in their free time is taking it a bit too far.

One of the callers brought up the book “1984″ by George Orwell.  He said he reads it once per year and every year can see our society moving closer and closer to that depicted in the book.  Rover often talks about our liberties gradually being taken away and I tend to agree with him.

Apparently Monday’s caller was really Logan Young III.  Son of recently deceased Alabama booster Logan Young Jr.  Young Jr. died about 6 weeks ago after falling down stairs at his home.  Young III called in Monday, while intoxicated, to discuss his father and to also offer $15,000 to take Duji out on a date.  Rover played a clip from a news show in Memphis, where the story of Young III calling in to the show was the top story on Tuesday.

Finally, there was some discussion of Extreme Makeover:  Homeless Edition.  The results will be shown tomorrow.  They said DJ Jazzy Jim had been left in charge of “babysitting” the two homeless guys and that it had been pretty ruckus.  Here are pictures of the two contestants:

Extreme makeover Homeless edition, Navy Life and Johnathon’s priest outtakes

Filed under: The Show — Justin @ 3:07 pm

On a spin-off of the ABC hit show, “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition”, Rover is letting two contestants have $100 each to make over two homeless guys (I was hoping one would be homeless Bill).  The two homeless gentlemen are James and Rock:

The winner is going to receive a Sony handicam.

One of the callers this morning, who originally called in about gay truck drivers and where they meet up, somehow got the show on a tangent about being in the navy and how many women those guys sleep with. This guy claims to have slept with over 1000 women while he was in the navy (6 years). That equals out to sleeping with one woman every other day for 6 years. I have several friends that are in the navy and I do know that the foreign women they see are easy (really easy) but this guy was obviously exaggerating the numbers. Pretty good story nonetheless.

Johnathon came in after going out to the Da Vinci code opening weekend in a priest outfit to mess with people. He and Duji got into an argument over him going down to Boy’s town (a gay area in Chicago that she told him not to visit). They played a couple clips of his stuff and I really did not find it very funny. The clip from the drug store was especially lame.

Da Vinci Code, Racial Profiling and Axel Rose - Tommy Hilfiger Fight

Filed under: The Show — Justin @ 2:15 pm

Rover and Duji both saw the new Da Vinci code movie over the weekend.  Neither of them enjoyed the movie (Rover had read the book, Duji had not).  They both expressed dislike of the acting (even Tom Hanks) and said there were several unexplained flashbacks.  Rover said he would have been totally confused if he had not just finished reading the book.  Most of the callers expressed dislike with the movie as well, there were a few positive reviews and some people did think Rover was being too harsh.

The conversation turned to airport security and then to racial profiling.  Rover and Dieter agreed that we should
racially profile people of middle eastern descent at airports because of their roles in 9-11.  Duji disagreed and basically said we should just search everyone extra cautiously.  Obviously if we search everyone, lines are going to increase, as are costs and there will be a huge uproar.

Rosario Dawson threw a birthday party in NYC this weekend.  Axel Rose performed an acoustic concert at the party.  He apparently asked Tommy Hilfiger (politely, according to reports) to move his date’s drink so that it would not be spilled.  This sent Hilfiger into a rage, yelling and then repeatedly punching Rose.  Rose did not retaliate and Hilfiger’s own bodyguards had to restrain him.  Hilfiger was then asked to leave.

Pay or Strip Mouse Traps

Filed under: Dare Dieter — Justin @ 3:03 pm

This Dare Dieter was from a fan submission.  They set up 100 mousetraps in the hallway for Dieter to walk through blindfold. 50 of the traps were labeled ”strip” and the other 50 were labeled ”pay”. Jenna the virgin intern then had to strip for every “strip” trap he steps on and Dieter had to pay Jenna $10 for every “pay” trap. He ended up hitting 15 of the pay traps and Jenna ended up with 3 strips left and only 4 pieces of clothing left.

Jenna reneged on the deal and Dieter was allowed to keep his money. Overall it was not really a very exciting Dare Dieter. I like the dares where all the action takes place in one moment (Bug Zapper dare). It was funny when they were throwing traps at each other afterwards though.

DUI Checkpoints and Relationship Finances

Filed under: The Show — Justin @ 1:31 pm

The big discussion this morning was over DUI checkpoints.  Rover contended that they are unconstitutional, while Duji said that they were good because they save lives.  I tend to agree with Rover, they are a hassle and are a violation of your civil rights.  I thought his analogy of the cops searching your house because of crime in your neighborhood was a good illustration of where good intentions with bad execution can lead.  Several callers chimed in with the inconvenience and long waiting times (one caller said 48 minutes) that these can cause.

Rover then called in one of their engineers. He had just purchased a new Video Ipod on Monday and had already been trying to sell it to people on the show. He said that his old Ipod had broken recently and he went out and bought this one to replace it. When his wife found out about it, she told him they didn’t have the money for it (he is the sole income, she is a student) and that he needed to sell it.

This turned into a debate over allowing your significant other to control the finances. Rover and Dieter chastised him for allowing her to control the money, when it is his money. Duji of course took his wife’s side, saying that they should have discussed the purchase beforehand. Several callers chimed in saying that he should be more of a man, with one of them even admitting his wife was in control of their finances.
