Ehren Watada, a hawaiian soldier, has refused to deploy to Iraq. Watada said:

“It’s my conclusion that the war isn’t only morally wrong but it’s illegal. Thus, it’s my obligation and duty to refuse any orders to participate in this war,” said Watada.

Yet Watada did not even join the army until after the war had already begun. His request to resign has been denied by the army. It seems that refusing to deploy runs in the Watada family, Watada’s father did the same thing during the Vietnam war. Rover said he was suspicious that this may all be a ploy and that Watada joined the army just to pull this stunt.
