Alcohol as a Date Rape Drug, Flag Burning Amendment, Jason Newsted on Rock Star: Supernova
There was a new date rape law passed in Wisconsin. The law states that victims who are very drunk during a sexual encounter can be judged incapable of giving consent. The law used to be that the victim had to be unconscious to be judged incapable. Rover and Dieter were not fans of this change. Duji, of course, thought it was a great idea. There were a lot of fans calling in on this topic, with almost all the men disagreeing with it. Many, but not all of the women that called in thought it was a pretty good idea. Like most things, I’m sure this law was passed with the best intentions but it will probably be abused.
There is a push in the Senate by the GOP to amend the United States Constitution to ban flag burning and desecration. This issue has a long and heated history of debate in the government and elsewhere. This is a touchy subject and Dieter is definitely against burning the flag under any circumstances. Rover said he values freedom of speech above this and does not want them to amend the Constitution. James Madison, one of the founding fathers, once said the Constitution should only be amended for “certain great and extraordinary occasions.” I’m sure the founding fathers thought of flag burning and if they didn’t see a need to add it into the Constitution, we should not do it either.
Jason Newsted, former bass player for superband Metallica, was on the show this morning. Jason is now playing bass for the band Voivod. He is also going to be on the reality TV show Rock Star: Supernova. Tommy Lee is creating a new band with Jason and Gilby Clarke from Guns N’ Roses.
They are continuing from last year when the band INXS came on the show to find a lead singer. Tommy, Jason and Gilby will be looking for a lead singer as well. Jason said they will have several high profile guests on the show including Rob Zombie and Moby. They talked for a bit about Jason leaving Metallica over five years ago. He did say he did not like Metallica’s last album. Rock Star: Supernova premieres July 5th at 8pm on CBS.
