Alcohol as a Date Rape Drug, Flag Burning Amendment, Jason Newsted on Rock Star: Supernova

Filed under: The Show — Justin @ 2:44 pm

There was a new date rape law passed in Wisconsin. The law states that victims who are very drunk during a sexual encounter can be judged incapable of giving consent. The law used to be that the victim had to be unconscious to be judged incapable. Rover and Dieter were not fans of this change. Duji, of course, thought it was a great idea. There were a lot of fans calling in on this topic, with almost all the men disagreeing with it. Many, but not all of the women that called in thought it was a pretty good idea. Like most things, I’m sure this law was passed with the best intentions but it will probably be abused.

There is a push in the Senate by the GOP to amend the United States Constitution to ban flag burning and desecration. This issue has a long and heated history of debate in the government and elsewhere. This is a touchy subject and Dieter is definitely against burning the flag under any circumstances. Rover said he values freedom of speech above this and does not want them to amend the Constitution. James Madison, one of the founding fathers, once said the Constitution should only be amended for “certain great and extraordinary occasions.” I’m sure the founding fathers thought of flag burning and if they didn’t see a need to add it into the Constitution, we should not do it either.

Metallica - S & M with the San Francisco SymphonyJason Newsted, former bass player for superband Metallica, was on the show this morning. Jason is now playing bass for the band Voivod. He is also going to be on the reality TV show Rock Star: Supernova. Tommy Lee is creating a new band with Jason and Gilby Clarke from Guns N’ Roses.

They are continuing from last year when the band INXS came on the show to find a lead singer. Tommy, Jason and Gilby will be looking for a lead singer as well. Jason said they will have several high profile guests on the show including Rob Zombie and Moby. They talked for a bit about Jason leaving Metallica over five years ago. He did say he did not like Metallica’s last album. Rock Star: Supernova premieres July 5th at 8pm on CBS.

Katherine Lester, Dieter’s Gay Pride Debacle, Lauren Harris from Blender and DJ Jazzy Jim’s secret delivery

Filed under: The Show — Justin @ 2:30 pm

Katherine Lester, the 17 year old Michigan native who attempted to run away to the middle east, has been a frequent topic of discussion on the show as of late. Katherine met Abdullah Jimzawi, a 20 year old man on social networking site Myspace.com. Katherine told her parents she wanted to go to Canada to get a passport, then attempted to fly over to the West Bank to meet up with Abdullah but was stopped in Jordan and sent back.
Abdullah Jimzawi
Katherine Lester appeared on Good Morning America with her father and step-mother. A taped segment from Jimzawi was played and Katherine began to weep. She responded with:

It’s true, I love you. That’s all I can say.

Her father, Terry Lester, says that at first they tried to shelter Katherine from Jimzawi who she chats with on internet phone for five hours a day. Terry now says that they are truly in love and that they should be together. Rover was not a fan of Terry’s comment. Rover remarked that Katherine needs to “get porked”. While I’m not sure that is true, I’m sure we can all relate to being young and in love. It would be a shame if her parents let her move over there and possibly ruin her life.

Dieter gave an update on his mission to keep a 10 year old boy who lives in his apartment from going to the Gay Pride Parade yesterday in Chicago. Dieter said he had been out late drinking on Saturday night. He woke up Sunday morning and put on his Emilio Estevez / Billie the Kid halloween outfit, complete with assless chaps. He walked down to the apartment with the kid lives with his mother. The mother answered the door and after telling Dieter that her son was still going to the parade, Dieter turned around and flexed his butt checks, showing the mother his bare ass. The mother proceeded to call the police, who arrived at the same time as the father (who was taking the boy to the parade). Dieter was cuffed and taken out of the building. The officer drove him around the block and told him that he was doing a good thing although he might be going about it the wrong way. Dieter was not arrested but the kid did go to the parade.

BlenderLauren Harris, editor from Blender magazine, was on the show this morning. She went over several of the big concerts coming to Chicago this summer. These included the Warped Tour, Lollapalooza and Ozzfest. Lauren said she thought the Warped Tour, which is going to include Joan Jett, would be the biggest concert this summer. That surprised me, I went to Lollapalooza a couple years ago and it was great. There were tons of great bands and a great atmosphere.

DJ Jazzy Jim was supposed to make a “secret delivery” this morning. Rover called him with only about 15-20 minutes left in the show. Jim was already supposed to be in position (which is 5-10 minutes from the studio). Instead, Jim said he was still 10 minutes away. This is the exact same thing that happened when he went on the hunt for Brian Peppers. Jim said he had forgotten the package when he left the studio the first time. He then stopped and ate a bagel because he thought he had extra time. Maybe he can make the delivery tomorrow.

Gay Pride Parade, Breaking up Fights and Jenna the Virgin Intern’s last day

Filed under: The Show — Justin @ 2:57 pm

This weekend is Chicago’s big gay pride parade and festival. Dieter has “befriended” a 10 year old boy that lives on the same floor as him in his apartment complex. Dieter says the boy is overweight, so he told him he should make himself vomit after eating because his mother feeds him all junk food (he told the boy this in front of his mom). The boy also told Dieter that his father is gay (the parents are divorced) and that he is taking him to the gay pride parade this weekend. Dieter is now on a mission to make sure the dad does not take him to the parade. Several callers and Jenna the Virgin Intern (who was on a float last year) said that there is a lot of groping and simulated sex that goes on.

Rover told a story this morning about seeing a man being beaten up. Rover verbally told the assailant to stop. A friend of the assailant told Rover he would beat him up if he tried to jump in. Rover watched as the man was beaten and the assailant and friend ran away. The man who was beaten then chastized Rover for not helping him. Dieter and Duji both said Rover should have done something. I’m sure if Dieter was in the same situation he would have jumped in, he is much bigger than Rover.

Today was Jenna the Virgin Intern’s last day on the show. She is starting her new marketing job on Monday. She got gifts for everyone on the show and also sang a special song she wrote. At the end of the song she said she is ready to give up her virginity. Maybe she will get a chance to meet Anton Apollo Ono with the new job. I’m sure she will do well.

Dieter eats Mentos and Diet Coke

Mentos and Diet Coke
There have been a lot of videos on the internet lately of people putting Mentos into Diet Coke. This creates a chemical reaction and the soda shoots like a geiser into the air. People also turn the bottles upside down and shoot the Diet Coke bottles like rockets after putting the Mentos in.

Dieter started out by mixing the Mentos and Diet Coke in his mouth a couple times. You could hear the pressure as the Diet Coke would shoot out of his mouth. Dieter then shook up a bottle of Diet Coke for some reason and sprayed it all over the new studio. I’m sure Drewpolian will be thrilled about that.

Dieter then chewed up and ate seven mentos and then swallowed several more whole. He then chugged some Diet Coke. Almost immediately he began to burp like crazy. He then downed a few more mentos. He continued burping and was burping up foam. He started to complain about the pain in his stomach and do his usual groan. As the burping and pain increased, he actually attempted to give himself the Heimlich Maneuver over the bakc of the chair. He was unable to get himself to vomit and eventually just took up his usual fetal position on the floor of the studio.

Cancelling AOL accounts, Bad Boss Stories (WorkingAmerica.org) and MySpace.com restrictions

Filed under: The Show — Justin @ 2:52 pm

Rover played the phone call this morning of Vincent Ferrari. Vincent tried to cancel his AOL internet account and was hassled relentlessly by the customer service representative. The rep actually had the nerve to ask to speak to Vincent’s father, who also uses the account, even though the account was in Vincent’s name and his credit card was on the account as well. He was finally able to get it cancelled and it was a rather quick call compared to some of the other listeners experiences, many of which said it took them 30-45 minutes to cancel.

WorkingAmerica.org is having a “My Bad Boss” contest. Workers can submit their stories and the person with the best story will win a weeklong vacation. Dieter told a story of a boss he had when he was 16. The guy told him that he had to have a drug test but instead of a urine sample, he needed a semen sample. Dieter, being Dieter, thought it made sense and gave him the sample. It turns out that the guy was some kind of drug addict and he and his girlfriend used all the semen for some kind of kinky body painting.

Rover then told a story about working for the state of Nevada, which was his first real job that he talks about often. He said there was a nurse there that had bunyons on her feet and huge boobs. She would try to make the young men that worked there rub her feet for her. Rover said that she was disgusted and she once tried to get him to rub her feet. He turned her down.

Duji had a story of a lesbian co-worker. She propositioned Duji for a date and Duji turned her down. Duji said after turning her down, the co-worker began to make her life a living hell. She would complain about stuff like Duji and her friend listening to the radio and generally harass her.

The popular social networking site MySpace.com has begun to implement restrictions to keep people over the age of 18 from contacting younger individuals. This change stems from a $30 million lawsuit that a 14 year old girl and her mother has issued against the site after the 14 year old met up with and was sexually assaulted by a 19 year old boy. Although this change may be a step in the right direction considering the huge amount of negative press myspace has received lately, as Rover said, it is still up to the parents to protect their children. MySpace has no way of determining your real age, so 14 year old girls could just say they are 18 or the 18 year old boy could do the reverse.
