UW’s Kevin Barrett on 9/11, Smoking Ban on Lake Michigan and Mancow Muller
Kevin Barrett, a professor at the University of Wisconsin has said he believes many of the September 11th hijackers are still alive. He calls Al Qaeda a “myth” made up by the government and says that 9/11 was a co-ordinated effort by the government. His comments have obviously caused quite an uproar, but after a 10 day investigation, the university has said he will be allowed to continue to teach there.
The crew got into a huge debate over this issue. Dieter, the king of conspiracy theories, says he thinks there are a lot of questions surrounding September 11th which have yet to be answered. He points to the “Loose Change” videos, which can be viewed at www.loosechange911.com. It claims to be a “documentary that exposes the truth about what really happened on 9-11″. Rover gives no credit to any of the theories and thinks Barrett should be kicked out of the university. Rover actually went as far as to say Barrett should be “strung up”.
A group has set out to ban smoking on the beaches of Lake Michigan. The group claims that people use the beaches as ashtrays. Last September, 30,000 cigarette butts were picked up off the beaches in three hours by volunteers. Rover contends that no new laws need to be made, just existing laws (littering) need to be better enforced. Dieter and Duji both think the law is a great idea and Duji thinks it is a hassle to have to move away from people who are smoking near you outdoors. Lots of callers agreed with Rover (although most were smokers and Rover is not) and the ban does seem a little silly when littering is the problem and the smoke isn’t really hurting anyway since it is outdoors.
True to Rover’s predictions, Mancow Muller was fired yesterday. Rover said he does not kick a man when he is down (Rover has been fired from several radio jobs) and he tried to get Mancow on the phone to explain his side of the story. Mancow hung up on Rover and they were not able to get him on the show. I’m sure Rover sending DJ Jazzy Jim down to his studio with a Jamba Juice application yesterday did not help the situation. I do hope they get him on the show though just because they have spoken about him so much recently and not being from the Chicago area, I have no idea who this guy is.
