Dieter Gets Guitar Smashed Over Head

Filed under: Dare Dieter — Justin @ 3:26 pm

A female listener from Memphis wrote in to say that she cried when Dieter broke the guitar that Jonathon’s dead father gave him. She actually went as far as to say that she hates Dieter. Her Dare Dieter was for Dieter to have a guitar smashed over his head. I thought it was kind of ironic that they had Jerry Lawler on the show and then guitar smashing.

Several listeners called in that had smashed guitars over people’s heads before. Most reported some pretty serious injuries. Dieter, not surprisingly, accepted the dare. They were trying to figure out ways for him to protect his head and teeth. So he kept his baseball cap on and also tore up a styrofoam cup and put it in his mouth as a mouthguard (not sure how effective that is).

Boston, the Memphis board-op, was giving the opportunity of smashing the guitar over his head. The girl should have specified Jonathon in her email but I doubt Rover wants any more bad blood between them. Dieter prepared himself by grunting and yelling and then the hit came. It sounded pretty darn loud and you could definitely tell that it broke. Rover immediately said he thought Dieter was hurt pretty bad. Dieter, as usual, told everyone to stay away from him and ended up leaving the studio a minute or so later. Rover said that Dieter’s head went through both the top and bottom of the guitar. He said he has been through so many Dare Dieter stunts that he can tell when Dieter is really hurt and this was one of those times.

The Memphis station’s program director came in and said the paramedics were on their way without anyone even calling (they had heard the dare on the radio). Several people brought up a possible concussion and I sent Rover an instant message to check to see if his pupils were dilated. I hope they don’t let him do too much drinking tonight or that could be bad news. I’m sure there will be some fun stories on Monday.

Dieter Pulls Truck and All Hell Breaks Loose

Filed under: Dare Dieter — Justin @ 5:03 pm

Manny from Detroit wrote in with this week’s dare. This Dare Dieter involved Dieter pulling a Ford F-550 truck with a harness, like they do in “World’s Strongest Man” competitions. To increase the difficulty, he was shot at with a paintball gun while attempting the stunt. Rover tricked him into bringing in one of his prized possessions, his high school football helmet. Dieter had 45 seconds to pull the truck across the parking lot or Jonathon would get to smash the helmet with a sledgehammer. Dieter was reluctant to accept the dare because of the helmet. He said he has worn it while doing the deed and also claimed that it was more valuable than Jonathon or Rover’s lives. He did finally accept though.

Rover, Dieter and Jonathon headed out to the parking lot. Dieter put on the harness and began to stretch. Jonathon warmed up with the paintball gun and Rover looked for cover. The countdown began and Dieter was having trouble getting the truck started. You could hear Jonathon firing away in the background. Dieter got the truck moving and managed to make it in a speedy 30 seconds even with Jonathon laying down heavy fire. This is where all hell began to break loose. Dieter grabbed the paintball gun from Jonathon after finishing (saying Jonathon was shooting him after he finished). He then shot Jonathon point blank in the balls. You could hear Jonathon yelling and Rover ran behind the truck as Dieter chased and shot Jonathon repeatedly. Dieter then went inside to clean off.

Jonathon was very angry and in pain. He took Dieter’s helmet and began to smash it with the sledgehammer even though Dieter had completed the dare. Rover said he pretty much flattened it like a pancake. He then threw the helmet into the middle of 12 mile road and almost got hit by a car in the process. Dieter then returned outside and shot Jonathon a few more times but somehow did not notice the helmet.

Everyone returned to the studio. Rover told Dieter what Jonathon had done to the helmet. Dieter did not believe him at first, until Jonathon walked in with the smashed helmet and gave it to Jonathon. Dieter went into a fit of rage. He threw the helmet and a chair across the studio at Jonathon. Jonathon ran and hid behind Rover, Dieter went over to him, bodyslammed him to the ground and began punching him until he was restrained. Dieter was taken out of the studio and Rover said he pretty much trashed all the equipment inside there. Dieter was yelling that he was going to kill Jonathon. This should make for a lot of interesting stories on Monday, especially with the calendar party tonight.

Dieter plays King Kong

Filed under: Dare Dieter — Justin @ 3:31 pm

To keep with the theme of taking a suggestion from a listener in each city they visit, Rover took a suggetion from a Rochester man this morning. He said a couple years ago he and his brother were flying a toy helicopter and he accidently ran it into his brother’s face. This resulted in his brother losing his eye.

He dared Dieter to get up on a ladder and have toy helicopters and airplanes flown at him and try to knock him off the ladder, similar to the Empire State Building scene in King Kong. One of the station guys from Rochester brought in a helicopter and airplane. Both sounded pretty loud and dangerous and Rover said the blade on the thing was two feet long.

Dieter got up on the ladder. There were several missed attempts as no one was really very good at flying these things. They finally decided to sit them pretty much directly in front of him and ram him. The airplane hit Dieter in the leg and broke the propeller. It must have not been a very hard impact because Dieter was not complaining very much. They then took the helicopter and rammed it directly into his side. The helicopter operator did not ease up on the throttle after impact and Dieter and the helicopter both went tumbling to the ground. Dieter said his side was pretty torn up and that if the guy didn’t work for the radio station he would have hit him in the face. Dieter kept saying, “you don’t do that to a grown man”. I’m not sure what the hell he was talking about as this was the whole premise of the dare.

Gateway Arch on Dieter’s Ass

Filed under: Dare Dieter — Justin @ 3:08 pm

Ron from St. Louis wrote in with this week’s dare. He wants Dieter to re-create the St. Louis Arch on his ass with staples. He also wants Dieter to put a string underneath each staple so he can rip all the staples out at once.

They recruited the Christie, board operator from St. Louis, who they brought on the show earlier because she was hot. Duji helped to form the arch with a string and Christie began to staple. Dieter would yell each time she put one in and said it stung pretty bad. They put six staples in originally and then decided to go for ten. Just as she put in the last staple, one fell out, so Rover told her to put another one in.

They then had to decide on how to pull the string to get them out. Rover wanted to do it one at a time but Dieter said to pull on both ends and take them all out at once. They grabbed the strings and pulled on the count of three. You could hear the staples rip out and Dieter scream. Luckily, someone from the station had come in and put down plastic because Rover said the blood was dripping. Dieter said the removal was ten times worse than putting them in. I’m sure it will make for a nice conversation piece with the St. Louis ladies this weekend though.

Dieter Lights Himself on Fire

Filed under: Dare Dieter — Justin @ 3:00 pm

The show was broadcast live from Cleveland today. I had a feeling there might be a special Dare Dieter scheduled for their return. I was right. A Cleveland listener wrote in to say they had seen a guy light himself on fire and jump off Chagrin falls. He said it was the coolest thing he had ever seen and wanted Dieter to light himself on fire and jump into water. Dieter seemed a bit hesitant but after meeting the stunt man he would be working with (who has the Guinness World Record for longest burn without oxygen) he accepted the dare.

Rover and Dieter then drove to a “secure” location, although there were already people there when they got there. Duji was left alone in the studio. Rover broadcast over his cell phone as Dieter was prepared for ignition. They whole process took about half an hour. They put his suit on, which was three to four layers, as well as a mixture of fireproof gel. After Ted (the stuntman) asked Dieter one more time if he was sure he wanted to go through with the dare, they began to put the fuel on him. Rover moved back at this point but started to get nervous because they were putting so much fuel on him. He was afraid Dieter was going to explode. With about 3 minutes left in the show, they lit Dieter on fire. He began to walk towards Rover and the crowd and then jumped into the water. The dive team that was set up got him out of the water and on to a boat. Dieter gave Rover a thumbs up before being taken away. I can’t wait to see the video.
