DUI Checkpoints and Relationship Finances
The big discussion this morning was over DUI checkpoints. Â Rover contended that they are unconstitutional, while Duji said that they were good because they save lives. Â I tend to agree with Rover, they are a hassle and are a violation of your civil rights. Â I thought his analogy of the cops searching your house because of crime in your neighborhood was a good illustration of where good intentions with bad execution can lead. Â Several callers chimed in with the inconvenience and long waiting times (one caller said 48 minutes) that these can cause.

Rover then called in one of their engineers. He had just purchased a new Video Ipod on Monday and had already been trying to sell it to people on the show. He said that his old Ipod had broken recently and he went out and bought this one to replace it. When his wife found out about it, she told him they didn’t have the money for it (he is the sole income, she is a student) and that he needed to sell it.
This turned into a debate over allowing your significant other to control the finances. Rover and Dieter chastised him for allowing her to control the money, when it is his money. Duji of course took his wife’s side, saying that they should have discussed the purchase beforehand. Several callers chimed in saying that he should be more of a man, with one of them even admitting his wife was in control of their finances.
